Corvil Sponsors John T Lewis Lecture Series

Promotes Importance Of Mathematics In Modern Communications

DUBLIN, IRELAND – April 16th, 2007 – Corvil, a leading provider of next generation network performance management solutions, today announced sponsorship for the John T. Lewis distinguished lecture series. Professor John T. Lewis (1932 - 2004) was a co-founder at Corvil and his seminal work on probabilistic methods applied to IP networking was the catalyst for founding the company. The aim of the lecture series is to promote education and advances in the areas of mathematics that John devoted his career to. To this end, the funding provided by Corvil will be used to support a series of lectures in Dublin by eminent researchers and academics in this field.

“John was an inspiration to us all at Corvil,” said Raymond Russell, CTO and co-founder, Corvil. “His research and insights into the practical application of mathematics to modern communications challenges has been key to the success of our products with Enterprise and Service Provider companies. This lecture series will help promote John’s philosophy of fundamental mathematical innovation with practical application.“

The lecture series will be hosted by the Hamilton Mathematics Institute, Trinity College Dublin and the School Of Theoretical Physics, Dublin Institute of Advanced Studies. The latest lectures in the series were given by Professor Yakov Sinai from Princeton University. Professor Sinai is considered as one of the most influential mathematicians of the twentieth century. He obtained numerous groundbreaking results in the theory of dynamical systems, Mathematical Physics and in Probability theory. He was one of the major architects of the theory of chaos connecting deterministic dynamics with random phenomena.

“I am delighted to deliver the John Lewis lecture series in Dublin,” said Yakov Sinai,. “It is a privilege for me to be able to pay tribute to John Lewis’ contribution to the mathematical community in this manner.“
