The New Economics for Network Data Analytics: Corvil’s Giga+ ReleaseBy Donal O'Sullivan    February 24, 2015      Announcements

We do believe this is a giant (Giga: from the Greek “gigas”, meaning “giant”) step for Corvil with giant implications for the future of the company and our work in the financial technology sphere - and beyond!

We’ve made a host of improvements, but first a giant change in the way that we price our Corvil software and hardware. We think it’s revolutionary: the Corvil Giga+ release decouples the analytics software from the underlying hardware, so that software and hardware are priced separately. Hardware will be sold at cost, and customers can now buy analytics software in a modular fashion, with a choice of repeated subscription or perpetual licenses. Those licenses are transferable to third-party or virtual machines for no additional cost.

What does all this mean? It means that the total cost of ownership will decrease by 40% over 5 years, and annual subscriptions will mean up to 55% savings in first years costs.

As they say on TV: but wait, there’s more! This update has made Corvil less expensive, faster, and more powerful. Here’s how:

Corvil Discovery and Configuration - for all Corvil’s analytics libraries. This capability reduces the operating expense of managing a Corvil deployment by up to 80 percent by reducing the time required from IT operations and engineering personnel.

Powerful Deep Data Buffering - network traffic - much like highway traffic - doesn’t always run smoothly. Deep data buffering smoothes out bursts of network data traffic without affecting Corvil’s analytics. It lets a single Corvil appliance handle the same peak data rates that would have taken up to three Corvil appliances before this release. This capability will also mean up to 66 percent reduction in capital cost for customers.

Remote Data Analytics - now, data flows from remote locations can be forwarded to Corvil installations in central datacenters for analysis, all with sub-microsecond accurate measurements. Centralization of Corvil data analytics can save clients up to 80 percent of cost compared to running all those remote sites.

Corvil Capture - allows network engineers to use proven workflows with PCAP files. Legacy tools such as WireShark, Tshark, and Berkeley Packet Filtering are now supported. This allows customers to consolidate traditional network monitoring and packet capture use cases into the Corvil platform saving up to 45 percent in capital expenditure.

Lower Cost, Higher Capacity Engines For Multiple 10Gb/s Ports - Corvil now offers a 4 x 10Gb/s analytics engine at 44 percent lower cost.

Corvil has already enabled customers across various industries to use their network data in powerful new ways. With this update, we hope to make Corvil network data analytics easily and cheaply available to even more customers in even more industries. The future looks bright for Corvil - and for all of our new and existing clients and partners!
